Zanzibar
A unique destination wedding is now a thing....in fact it is massive. Zanzibar is proving to be a hot bed for those who seek unique locations, intimate weddings or a more bohemian type feel.
During my most recent trip, I tried desperately to extend my stay in Stone town and it was near impossible. All or most of the hotels were fully booked for that specific weekend from Africa House to Park Hyatt and to think this is pre-summer holiday before schools are out was pretty much unexpected
So what's the appeal?
For those souls who seek a bit of culture, Stone town is rich in heritage buildings and quite literally full of history . The classified doors in alley ways, along with wooden shutters, stained windows, poster beds, stained windows, muslim prayer calls all indicative of the town's rich history of Arab, Indian and British influence.
The locals are generally friendly, streets clean and relatively safe with a vibrant family friendly night life, great water adventures and tours.
The only downside I'd say is the Airport... a very frustrating delay at the visa and customs desks . Plus there is no Wifi and literally 2 small shops . But really this is a small price to pay compared to the beauty that lies beyond the airport. Trip from the airport to Stonetown should cost no more that $10 .
Enjoy a lovely glass of Mimosa and Octopus at 6 Degrees and watch the sunset.
Next stop ... Kiwengwa.
