Hen Party Idea~ Making Buntings

Yesterday we covered a post on buntings as a wedding venue styling idea. What made the post extra special was a comment made by one of one of our lovely readers. She made a brilliant suggestion~ making buntings for your hen do! This idea resulted from a royal wedding street party they organised on Columbia Road. The lovely Claire has shared images of some of her creative and cool neighbours making buntings at The Royal Oak. I really need to move to that side of London~ Columbia Road!

Wedding idea for your hen party or pre-wedding drinks!

Here's what you do! Clear out someone's living room or hire a private room in a pub and set tables with sewing machines. These can either be borrowed or hired. Rent Not Buy hires sewing machines for as little as  as £15 a day. Alternatively, ask around; everyone has a sewing machine these days.Steady flow of wine and good music are absolutely essential. A boogie every now and again is guaranteed to set the party afoot. Cold meat, cheese or some hot canopies will be fabulous!  Swap roles as you go along. So if you have done a bit of cutting, do some sewing afterwards. Put it this way, you might even meet someone. It's almost like speed dating.

The end result will be displayed on the day of the wedding and this idea has to be one of the most productive. But first, here's what you'll need.

What you will need
Selection of fabric remnants(preferably 100% cotton)
bias binding /ribbon
thread
sewing machine
cardstock
pinking scissors
scissors
pencil

Use cardstock to cut out a template.
Trace the outer shape of the template unto fabric and make sure the shapes are next to each other.

Rotate to get the most out of your fabric.

Rotate to get the most out of your fabric.

Pin the centre of each shape and cut out with pinking scissors to avoid fraying.
Then overlock edges with sewing machine

.

Use ribbon or bias binding and fold halfway lengthwise. Attach fabric cut out shape with a pin onto the ribbon and space out evenly. Sew along the ribbon ensuring that both fabric and ribbon are included

Result: The award for the best royal wedding Street Party in London goes to~ Columbia Road!
